Summertime at the Finger Lakes

Taughannock Falls, Ithaca, NY. June 2009.

Walk to nearby Taughannock Falls.

There’s nothing like summertime in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Outdoor recreation abounds, restaurants have an abundance of local food, and wine flows in the many wineries. There is plenty to do and there are plenty of fine spots to relax and do nothing.

Pristine Lakes

Our Finger Lakes Bed and Breakfast and Guest Houses are minutes from Cayuga Lake and a short drive from Seneca Lake. Cool off with a luxurious swim. Explore the shoreline in a kayak. Take a romantic sunset cruise.

Outdoor Concerts

There are numerous outdoor concerts every summer around here. Guests of our Finger Lakes Bed and Breakfast can drive 3 minutes to nearby Taughannock Falls State Park, where the Saturday evening summer concert series starts July 7. Wineries along the Cayuga and Seneca Lakes Wine Trails frequently have live music on the weekends. And free concerts are held Thursday evenings (June through August) at the Bernie Milton Pavilion in Ithaca.

Waterfalls and Gorges

The Finger Lakes region is renowned for its waterfalls and gorges. One of the most spectacular–Taughannock Falls–is just down the street from Halsey House. Others, like the impressive Aunt Sarah’s Falls and Watkins Glen State Park, are not far by car. Bring your camera and a picnic!

Golf Finger Lakes

Ithaca's Hillendale Golf Course.

Wineries

Finger Lakes Wineries have been producing outstanding wines for decades. Tour and taste up the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail and down the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, and bring a bottle to enjoy back at the inn. Summer evenings and good wine–an unbeatable combination.

Outdoor Recreation

Numerous state parks and national forests means there’s an abundance of hiking throughout the Finger Lakes region. Hike in Taughannock Falls State Park, or wander the trails of the nearby Finger Lakes National Forest. State Forests surround Ithaca to the west, south, and east. Options are everywhere.

Meandering country roads are ideal for biking, lakes are fabulous for boating, and golf courses abound. If you have a favorite outdoor activity, you can do it here.

Restaurants

The Finger Lakes region is bursting with superlative restaurants, many of which feature locally grown produce and locally raised meats. Visit tried and true spots like the Moosewood Restaurant, a traditional steakhouse like the Mahogany Grill, or Danos on Seneca, a Viennese Winery Restaurant.

Make your summer plans. Come to our Finger Lakes Bed and Breakfast for a romantic getaway with your sweetie. Gather together a group of friends or family and rent one of our Finger Lakes Vacation Homes: Clarke’s Cottage on Hidden Pond (sleeps 10) or our new Good Vibrations (sleeps  10). Do both!
