The Davids’ Dining Recommendations

Dining in Trumansburg and the surrounding countryside

Hazelnut Kitchen  The New York Times says it is worth the drive from Manhattan to Trumansburg, just to have dinner here.  Our guests love everything about dining at Hazelnut Kitchen.  Talk is that the chefs/owners Justin, Lisa and Matt were trained at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, but we know for fact that they are self-taught.  Pretty impressive, indeed.  Hazelnut Kitchen is a farm driven, seasonal, American bistro featuring a dynamic wine list and seasonal specials.  A gem in Trumansburg just 3 minutes away from Halsey House.  Reservations are strongly recommended.  (Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays)

Dano’s Heuriger  Overlooking Seneca Lake with a spectacular view, Dano’s combines traditional Austrian/German cuisine with regional award-winning wines.  The superb Viennese-inspired cooking of chef/co-owner Dano Hutnik and pastry chef/co-owner Karen Gilman have drawn the attention of the James Beard Foundation. Located about 20 minutes from Halsey House.  (Closed Tuesdays)

Stonecat Café  Organic regional cuisine with a friendly, knowledgeable staff.   Optional outdoor dining available on a deck with incredible views of Seneca Lake.  (Open Wednesdays through Sundays, May through October)

Crystal Lake Cafe at Americana Vineyards & Winery  Delicious, well prepared scratch cooking with whole ingredients served in a laidback atmosphere.  A varied menu created by Jennifer Ungberg and Lindsay Freeman.  The grilled cheese sandwich is the best that can be found.  (Closed Tuesdays)

Dining in Ithaca

Le Cafe Cent-Dix  A classic French bistro with a reputation for  a superb dining experience.  Located just off the Ithaca Commons.  Very popular, Le Café Cent-Dix does not take reservations.  (Closed Mondays)

Mercato Bar & Kitchen  Italian-inspired, seasonally-conscious cuisine.  The bar is one of Ithaca’s best.  A local favorite, Mercato does not take reservations.  (Closed Sundays)
